He's a hypocrite. If citizens can't have guns, why should his body guards? I'm sure if the only thing protecting him and his family were inaccurate pistols and knives, he wouldn't be trying to put any laws into effect. If there weren't guns, there would be knives. If there weren't knives there would still be fire and bombs.

The guns were identified as a .223 caliber rifle and a 9mm pistol. He shot twenty children and 6 adults. USA TODAY- "The .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle also was the weapon of choice in the 2002 Washington-area sniper shootings, which left 10 dead and three wounded in a series of attacks that terrorized the capital region." Anyone that knew anything about this shooting should be held responsible for the actions of the two shooters. Many middle class families struggle to get by without paying extra taxes for the rich. There should be 5% tax cuts for the people that don't make quite as much money as the upper-class families. It would go into effect in January 1, 2013. This has to be in place because middle and lower class families are paying too much. 9-27-12 LETTER

Dear CNN, I am a Senior at Philip Barbour High School in Philippi, West Virginia. In our school, physical fitness is probably the least of our worries when it should be one of our most important subjects. It is needed for a kid to have a "normal" life. If everyone in our school was physically fit, bullying would go down by at least 50%. Most bullies are out to make fun of the weak or less fortunate. If everyone was at least healthier in their everyday life, less bullying would occur. It makes sense. If you take away what everyone has to make fun of, what would they have left? In my opinion, bullying is the worst aspects of public schooling. When being the victim of a bully, you're concentrated about that person seeing you throughout the day. You don't have enough mental ability to focus on what class work you have for that particular day. I've seen multiple kids avoid certain parts of our school just to get away from the harassment. Most kids have no access to any type of gym outside of school. Yeah, there are city parks, but why would you go there if you don't like 90% of the people there? These city parks aren't very up-to-date either. In Belington, the city park has metal plates for basketball backboards. Schools possess some of the nicest gyms, but are only in use during school. Unless you can run for forty-five minutes a day, cut down to around thirty minutes after changing, isn't enough time to be really active. After instruction time, it is cut down to about twenty minutes of actual physical activity including break time. In conclusion, I think it should be a much more available aspect of school. All school consists of is class work in which most of our students do fairly well. Bullying would be reduced. People would feel safer at school. It would be an all around brighter school atmosphere.

U.N. PAPER

Stage 1: The Federalist Papers were published to persuade Anti-Federalists to vote for the Constitution. Written by United States citizens like James Madison, the essays were very detailed in why the Constitution is needed for citizens to keep power. It was very effective. Stage 2: The US provides the army. The army's chief is the president. The president is elected by the people. The people also elect congress. Congress can declare wars or make peace treaties to help protect our nation. Stage 3: In North Korea the country does not protect it's citizens as it should. Dictatorship allows police mistreat suspects during arrest using lethal force and extreme prison conditions. Citizens are arrested for political disagreement and denied the right of affair and expeditious trial. Political influence and ineffeciency have distorted the judicial system. It will eventually destroy itself within its own government. The citizens are helpless. Stage 4: “This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the design of Providence that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a band of brethren, united to each other by the strongest ties, should never be split into a number unsocial, jealous, and alien sovereignties.” – 1787 I'm glad that we have a constitution. Without it, we would be in bad shape and not be the leading world power.

Social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ are not very protective websites. In each, you must go into the settings and choose who can view your profile and posts. This is quite a hassle, so most people don't even bother. All a stalker has to do is Google your name, and all of your information will magically appear. Privacy is going down the drain. THE PATRIOT ACT The Patriot Act states that the government can: listen in on phone calls, read texts, emails, and messages sent to others without notification. It states that it would be used for tracking of illegal exchanges such as murders or drug deals. It is the government being able to listen in on private conversation, but states that they must stop listening after 60 seconds, because that would be an invasion of personal rights. PRIVACY ISSUE? Yes, it is in violation to the first amendment because they can invade your privacy. If you aren't a drug dealer, you shouldn't have to prove that you aren't. The government is doing it for the good, but for the good citizens, it's a privacy invasion. How America has Changed since 911

America has has some significant changes since the faitful day of september. One thing that has changed in the past twelve years is airport security. Another thing that has gotten worse is stereotypical judement. A third change in the America of today is the American outlook on life. These are just three of the changes.

Airport security has gotten much more strict in the past decade. They now search every bag and possession that you are taking on board with you. Many items allowed in the 911 hijacking, like box cutters, are now not allowed to be on your person. You can randomly be searched if there is a suspicion that you could be a terrorist or any other threat to the pilot and passengers. This is change number one.

Before 911, stereotypes were a part of America as history has shown, but after 911, the whole meaning almost changed. If you're a muslim living in America, life became much more difficult. No one would trust you. You would be an outcast of life. This is because ignorant muslim extremists like Al-Queda soiled the muslim name.

What do I mean when I say the "American outlook on life?" Well, before 911, everyone was happy and more secure with theirselves because they thought nothing bad could happen. 911 was an eye-opener. It showed that no place is 100% safe, no matter how advanced that they are. Everyone, or most people, is a lot more insecure. They now own guns and have security systems. I knock on a door after 10 o'clock if you payed me, without running away that is.

In sum, the American lifestyle went through a dramatic change after 2001. Airports now don't trust anyone. Muslims will always be looked down upon. Everyone is really paranoid. Let's see how it keeps changing.

I think that it should be required to have an ID so that underage kids won't just vote for who their parents vote for. It would cause an inacurate vote.

Silent Debate

Who are you? How old are you in 1787?        I am Robert Yates. I was 49.

Are you a federalist or not?        I'm an Anti-Federalist.

What is your personal history up to 1787?       My job was to be a surveyor and in 1777, I was appointed to the New York supreme court.

What was your role in the Convention?        Along with John Lansing Jr., I helped represent New York.

What stated views would explain your actions during the Convention?     I was the most vocal delegate in support of individual liberties and highly supported the Bill of Rights.

What is your stance during the ratifying conventions?     My stance is to support individual liberties

What are your views on the new plan of government?     I think the Judiciary and Legislative branches will end up destroying themselves. Congress has way too much power, especially over the states.

New Orleans better have out their brooms, cause it's a mess. Over 7000 have evacuated. There are many flooded homes.

civics assignment for August 23, 2012

1. Define the Constitution…..in your own words in a PARAGRAPH (3-5 sentences)
-The constitution is the reason why we have our independence. It is a written document that separated us from England. And we all know, no one wants to be a part of England.

2. How would your life be without the constitution ?
-It would probably be a lot less satisfying. We wouldn't have near as much freedom as we do today. We also wouldnt have a democracy.

3. Define the following words:

Ratification
-to confirm

Faction
-A small, organized, dissenting group within a larger one, esp. in politics

Federalism
-The federal principle or system of government

Federalist/ Antifederalist
-An advocate or supporter of federalism

Compromise
-An agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions

The Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise)
- an agreement that large and small states reached during the Constitutional Convention of 1787 that in part defined the legislative structure and representation that each state would have under the United States Constitution. It retained the bicameral legislature as proposed by James Madison, along with proportional representation in the lower house, but required the upper house to be weighted equally between the states

Checks and Balances
- Under this model, the state is divided into branches, each with separate and independent powers and areas of responsibility so that no branch has more power than the other branches. The normal division of branches is into an executive, a legislature, and a judiciary

Democratic Republic
-A democratic republic is a country that is both a republic and a democracy. It is one where ultimate authority and power is derived from the citizens. However, in practice countries that describe themselves as democratic republics do not always hold free or fair elections.

Delegated Powers of the Federal Government
-Constitutional powers assigned to one Government agency.

Reserved Powers of the State Governments
-a power that can be empowered by the state without the approval of another branch of the government

Separation of Powers
-a model of the governments of the state

Civil Liberties
-provide individuals with specific rights

I'm not really a fan of pro football, but in comparison, you wouldn't catch me wearing a Pitt or Michigan shirt. I think it shows that he will do anything just to get the vote of the American people. In this case, the fans caught on.

I don't really like what Obama has done with the country, but I do think he will be elected in November. He didn't really keep any of his promises and raised the national debt by a gigantic amount.
